Governor John Bel Edwards will release a detailed plan today on how he would like lawmakers to address a 304-million dollar midyear budget deficit. Edwards says the plan will include cuts and money that’s available in the state’s savings account..:
Cut 10 (05) “rainy day fund”
That would mean legislators will need to make 185-million dollars in cuts to eliminate the rest of the deficit during a special session that will begin next week.

The man accussed of fatally shooting former NFL player Joe McKnight plead not guility to second-degree murder today. The defense team for Ronald Gasser say McKnight tried to open Gasser’s car door and their client feared for his left during an apparent road rage incident in Jefferson Parish last December. Legal Analyst Chick Foret says under Louisiana law, people do have extra protections in their vehicles, but the case won’t be that cut and dry…

Gasser remains in the Jefferson Parish jail in lieu of a 750-thousand dollar bond. His next court hearing is February 16th.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s office is expected to release about an ATV accident involving the niece of pop star Britanny Spears. TMZ reports that eight-year-old Maddie Spears is in critical condition after the ATV she was ridding flipped over and Maddie was underwater for several minutes.
