State officials are advising Louisiana residents to stay safe as winter weather moves through. State Trooper Scott Moreau says as freezing rain and sleet falls in many north and central Louisiana parishes, roadways are becoming more dangerous. He advises people not to drive if at all possible.

Several cars on I-49 south of Alexandria have ended up off the side of the road because of icy conditions.

Five parishes are under a winter storm warning, Catahoula, Concordia, Franklin, Madison and Tensas Parishes. Mark McAllister with the National Weather Service tells us what we can expect in this area…

There are also hard freeze warnings and wind chill advisories posted. We’re looking at low temperatures below freezing with a brisk wind.

Governor John Bel Edwards announced today that it’s plan to spend 438-million dollars in federal flood recovery money went to federal government today for approval. Much of this money is expected to go to the elderly and disabled. He says money for other flood victims may not be available until April or May.
