Governor Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards will be a part of the first ever televised New Year’s Eve central time zone countdown in New Orleans. The couple will be featured on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ New Year’s Eve production at around 11:50 tonight and he is expected to address the resiliency of the state after a trying year. Pretty Little Liar star Lucy Hale will host the countdown.

 
This New Year’s is going to be a wet one across Louisiana and forecasters expect several inches of rain to fall throughout South Louisiana. Alek Krautmann with the National Weather Service in Slidell says the three day event lasts today into Monday…:

Krautmann says the system will come in two waves, the first this evening into the overnight, then there will be a break before more rain arrives late Sunday night into midday Monday.

The state Department of Environmental Quality is urging Louisianans to recycle after the holidays. Jean Kelly with DEQ says more waste is produced in December than any other month. She says almost everything is recyclable in some way.
