Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards will participate in Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve on ABC. The governor will discuss Louisiana’s culture and resiliency following a challenging year. Pretty Little Liars actress Lucy Hale will host the first ever central time zone countdown in New Orleans. The Governor is scheduled to appear on the production around 11:50 pm central time.

Governor Edwards has appointed Crowley state lawmaker Jack Montoucet as secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Michelle Southern reports…:

An arrest has been made in a 2015 double homicide in Baton Rouge that claimed the lives of two young women. BRPD Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says 26-year-old Jonathan Robertson was incarcerated on an unrelated attempted robbery charge, and police were able to secure the weapon he had at the time of his arrest.

McKneely says Robertson faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 23-year-olds Brandi Gilbert and Corrine Rayford.

It’s going to be a wet New Year’s weekend, as forecasters expect several inches of rain to fall throughout South Louisiana. Alek Krautmann with the National Weather Service says the rainfall will last from Saturday into Monday.
