LSU’s live tiger mascot, Mike VI, will no longer receive radiation treatment for his tumor because his doctor says the cancer has grown out of control and there is nothing more than can be done. Dr. David Baker says their current plan gives the LSU community time to say their goodbyes to the beloved mascot…:

The speculation is on about what’s going to happen with the LSU/Florida game slated for Hurricane Matthew threatened Gainseville this weekend. Kickoff in The Swamp is set for 11am Saturday morning, but the latest track on the massive category 3 storm is that it could hammer parts of eastern Florida beginning Thursday and continuing into the weekend. Tulane and the University of Central Florida are delaying their Friday game until Saturday November 5th because of the storm.

There are more opioid prescriptions in Louisiana than there are people according to a report by the Associated Press and the Center for Public integrity. They found the rate for pain meds prescribed is 1.03 per resident. Medical Director with the state Office of Public Health, Dr. David Holcombe, says a simple solution to abuse that could lead to heroin addictions would be for doctors to check patients’ prescription history:

Holcombe doesn’t expect doctors to be eager to do these checks because it would be another hassle on their to-do list.
