Louisiana residents can now buy REAL ID licenses today from the Office of Motor Vehicles. In October of 2020, travelers will need a REAL ID to fly domestically without a passport. OMV COmmissioner Karen St. Germain says in order to get an ID, you’ll need to bring in your birth certificate, social security card and proof of residency and they look similar to your current license.

LSU Health New Orleans researchers find there is a link between certain types of cancer and sugary beverage consumption. Dr. Melinda Sothern with LSU Health New Orleans says added sugar was found to be connected to some cancers, not natural sugars.

She says they recommend that people do not have more than three 12 ounce sugary drinks per week.

 

The new slogan from Keep Louisiana Beautiful aims to raise awareness about the state’s litter problem. Executive Director Susan Russel says she hopes “Love the Boot, Don’t Pollute” will get a message across to Louisianians not to trash our wonderful state. She says they hope to see less garbage in years to come, as volunteers still had a lot of trash to pick up last year.

She says they are seeing a decline in litter around Louisiana and believes that’s because of the efforts of 35-thousand volunteers.

According to authorities, a 16-year-old Woodlawn student has been arrested today by Caddo Sheriff’s deputies for posting threats about students and teachers on her Instagram account. The posts made on the account wally _ clown  threaten that Woodlawn students and teachers would be kidnapped and killed. Account followers reported the messages to the Sheriff’s office. Threats were also made against students at Fair Park High School. The teenager was booked into Caddo Juvenile Detention Center.
