For the second consecutive year, the Saints start their season with three consecutive losses. New Orleans lost to Atlanta 45-32 last night. The game started well as the Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but the game turned when De’Vante Harris ran over returner Tommylee Lewis, causing a muffed punt and giving Atlanta the ball on the New Orleans 11-yard line. Quarterback Drew Brees put up his usual great numbers with 376 yards and three touchdowns passing, but had an interception that was returned for a touchdown which turned out to be too much for the Saints to overcome.

LSU starting defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was arrested early Monday for allegedly roughing up his girlfriend during an argument, according to police. LSU has suspended him indefinitely.

In LSWA honors, Louisiana Tech Quarterback Ryan Higgins was named Offensive Player of the Week. The Defensive Players of the week are linebacker Nico Marley of Tulane, and Nicholls State defensive back B.T. Sanders. The Special Teams Player of the Week is Tulane’s kicker, Andrew DiRocco.
