There was a collective cheer from the purple and gold nation yesterday after the news broke that true freshman Brandon Harris is the new starting quarterback at LSU. Coach Les Miles says Harris deserves a chance to start this Saturday against fifth ranked Auburn after leading the Tigers on seven consecutive touchdown drives against New Mexico State on Saturday. Miles says Harris made quality decisions with the football:

The Louisiana Sports Writers Association named Harris the Offensive PLayer of the week. ULM’s Michael Johnson got defensive honors from the LSWA and Warhawk Justin Manton got special teams honors in their amazing 22-20 win over Troy on Saturday.

Saints Coach Sean Payton says there needs to be a sense of urgency this week to correct the mistakes that has led to a 1-and-3 start. In the NBA, the Pelicans begin training camp today. New Orleans has aspirations to make the playoffs this season, but they can’t have injuries derail their season like they did last year. The team has already said forward Tyreke Evans could miss up to five weeks because of a hamstring injury.
