Registration for the Louisiana Shelter at Home Program opened Monday and so far about 6300 have applied…and the number keeps growing. That’s according to the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Julie Baxter Payer. She says the program awards up to $15,000 so that people can make their homes livable while they rebuild…:

Crews pulled the small plane that crashed into Lake Pontchartrain last weekend out of the water today and the bodies of the missing pilot and passenger were located inside. Officials say the chartered plane was on a sightseeing tour Saturday night when they apparently encountered a thunderstorm. The FAA will now investigate the crash. The bodies were turned over to the New Orleans Coroner.

Tropical Depression 9 in the Gulf of Mexico is gaining strength and could become Tropical Storm Hermine sometime today – but is not expected to have an impact on Louisiana. Alek Krautmann with the National Weather Service says currently the system is moving to the north, but will gradually turn east later tonight. He says a ridge of high pressure is pushing it towards Florida…:

He says the state can expect high tides along the coast in southeast Louisiana as a result of this storm.
