During his first year in office, the governor has had to tackle a huge budget deficit, historic flooding and police shootings.

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is asking residents in southeast Louisiana to partcipate in a phone survey, where they’ll be asked questions about evacuating from a hurricane.

The US Coast Guard and other agencies are attempting to clean-up 42-hundred gallons of crude oil that spilled near the mouth of the Mississippi River. A well owned by Texas Petroleum Investment Company dischared the oil. A Coast Guard spokesperson says they are trying to collect as much oil as possible with skimmers.
