According to a UNO poll, nearly half of Louisianans think Governor John Bel Edwards has done a good job in his first 8 months in office. UNO pollster Ed Chervenak sys the governor’s favorability rating seems to be on the rise.

Chervenak says that’s not a bad rating for a Democrat in a Red State.

The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is urging Louisianans to participate in a phone survey on hurricane preparedness. Mike Steele with GOHSEP says LSU will perform the survey over the next three months, and the results will help agencies prepare for possible evacuations.

A Luling man has been charged with attempted murder after shooting his estranged father-in-law in the chest. St. Charles Sheriff Greg Champagne says after 30-year-old William Canada and his wife separated, he went into depression. He says Canada was treated for an oxycodone addiction after suffering head trauma while serving in the military, and he quit his job at an oil refinery two weeks ago.

Champagne says Canada fired around 40 shots into the home of his in-laws.

27 shootings have taken place in Shreveport so far this year. Cpl. Marcus Hines says that’s a high number, but most of them aren’t just random acts of violence.
