Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand says the man who was killed by one of his deputies last night attempted to shoot an officer, but 17-year-old Devon Martes’ gun jammed. Normand says Martes was shot by Deputy David Dalton.

The body found in a canal in Ascension Parish yesterday afternoon has been identified as 18-year-old Alex Rubio of Gonzales. Authorities are not releasing many details, but they have determined his death is a homicide.
