Louisiana ranks second for the number of police officers killed in the line of duty this year, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. President Craig Floyd says seven Louisiana officers have been killed in the line of duty in 2016. He says we need to have more respect for our officers….

The ALS Association says the millions of dollars raised during the 2014 “Ice Bucket Challenge” helped scientists identify a gene that contributes disease. Kelly Viator, director of the Louisiana chapter of the ALS Association, says it shows small donations can make a big difference…

Now that this gene has been connected to ALS, researchers will figure out how it contributes to this devastating disease and develop new targeted therapy to treat it.

A couple of endorsements were announced today in the US Senate race. US Representative Charles Boustany has received the backing of Ag Commissioner Mike Strain, while State Treasurer John Kennedy says he’s recieved an endorsement from former Governor Buddy Roemer. Political analyst Clancy Dubos says Strain’s endorsement of Boustany carries more weight than Roemer’s backing of Kennedy…

We’ll get more information this afternoon on the fatal shooting of a suspect by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputy. The incident happened last night in Metairie. The sheriff’s office says a deputy fired his weapon six times after the suspect pointed his gun at the officer.

And the Diocese of Lafayette says Reverend David Broussard, a priest in Breaux Bridge, has been arrested on charges of possessing child pornography.
