East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Garafola was one of the officers killed in the ambush. Sheriff Sid Geatreaux says Garafola died a hero.

Medical Director at the Capital Area Human Services Dr. Aniedi Udofa (uh-need-E U-dough-fuh) says it’s very important to have discussions with children in the wake of the tragedy in Baton Rouge. She says it’s also a good idea for parents to talk about the importance of police officers and their role in keeping a community safe.

Udofa says limit the amount of time your kids spend watching TV or on social media if you notice a change in their behavior.

The aftermath of the violence in Baton Rouge is being felt at the Republican National Convention currently underway in Cleveland. Chairman of the Louisiana Republican Party, Roger Villere says security has been ramped up at the convention because of the recent attacks. He says it takes an extra 30 minutes or so to get through security, but it’s worth it to keep everyone safe.
