Attorneys for the state Department of Corrections are asking a federal appellate court to reverse a judge’s ruling that said conditions on death row at the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola are unconstitutional during the summer. Judge Brian Jackson says the state must install a cooling system that will keep heat indexes from going over 88 degrees.
Two Shreveport police officers have been put on routine paid administrative leave after they were involved in a shooting of an armed robbery suspect. A Tallulah woman faces more than 30 felony counts related to a tax fraud scheme. Investigators say Chetoria Tyler submitted fraudulent income tax returns on behalf of clients of her tax preparation business resulting in more than $60,000 in fraudulent tax refunds. Tyler is the 33rd person arrested under a joint anti-tax fraud initiative of the Louisiana Department of Revenue and the state Attorney General’s Office.
