As expected, State Treasurer John Kennedy announces he will run for the US Senate this year. Kennedy says the reason he’s throwing his hat in the ring is because he wants his country back. He feels the country is straying from the conservative values that were taught to him by his parents…:

A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s is in critical but stable condition after being shot several times during a drug raid in New Orleans this morning. Sheriff Newell Normand says the incident involving 35-year-old Stephen Arnold is extremely difficult on everyone…:

The suspect, Jarvis Hardy, was booked with attempted first-degree murder and narcotics violations.

Authorities in Avoyelles Parish are investigating a human female fetus found at a sewage piping station. Sheriff Doug Anderson says city workers notified the Moreauville Police after discovering the fetus while working in a sewage pond…:

Anderson says they’re working to determine who the fetus belonged to.

According to the latest labor numbers, the unemployment rate fell to 6.1 percent in December, as more people continue to leave the work force. The Louisiana Workforce Commission says employment in education and health services grew by 2,400 jobs last month. They say growth in those sectors is helping Louisiana weather the drop in oil prices.
