Former East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor Pro Tempore LaMont Cole was formally indicted on corruption charges by a grand jury Wednesday amid an attorney general probe into the city-parish government. Cole was charged with two counts each of conspiracy to commit public bribery and money laundering as well as one count of malfeasance in office. Cole issued a statement last night, saying the indictment was a “miscarriage of justice based on association, not attestation, and proximity to potential crimes without proof.”
