It took less than 24 hours for the Louisiana Supreme Court to react to Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Orleans Parish indictment. The state’s highest court issued an emergency stay early this morning, which means the 16-count indictment handed down yesterday has been put on hold.

An Orleans Parish grand jury charged Murrill with malfeasance and intimidation for letters she sent in May to New Orleans city officials threatening their possible removal from office if they continued to usurp a state law that combined the city’s criminal and district clerk of courts.

Following the indictment, District Judge Leon Roche (Ro-shay) issued a warrant for Murrill’s arrest, setting bail at 400-thousand dollars. Murrill’s attorney, Laura Rodrigue, called the bail amount excessive…

Governor Jeff Landry has ordered the State Police to investigate the alleged improprieties of the grandy and those who ran it. We do know that grand jury return was done behind closed doors, when state law requires they must be done in open court.

LSU-Alexandria breaks ground on its new 43-million-dollar Health Education Campus. Dr. Ryan Riche (REE-shay), the dean of the College of Health and Human Services, says the 78-thousand-square-foot facility will have active-learning classrooms, advanced simulation labs and a 240-seat auditorium.
