The state will likely get some much-needed rain this week. Over the next seven days, north and central Louisiana could get at least three inches of rain, with areas south of there to the I-10/I-12 corridor getting between two and three inches. National Weather Service senior meteorologist Jason Hansford says that, however, won’t be nearly enough to get the state out of the drought.

Quick thinking by Lafayette Police after Festival International had wrapped up Saturday night may have prevented a much more serious situation. Sergeant Robin Green says as an argument broke out between two groups, 19-year-old Jai’Quan Pierre of Crowley pulled out a gun and pointed it at the crowd, and a police officer reacted by firing a shot to prevent the incident from escalating any further.

The owners of Cleco Power have reached an agreement to sell the utility. The deal to sell the company to Stonepeak Energy and Bernhard Capital Partners will keep the firm headquartered in Central Louisiana; and, in accordance with a House resolution passed last year, the buyers will commit to retaining all jobs at their current salaries.
