We now know the name of the 17-year-old who died in yesterday’s shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge. Martha Odom attended Ascension Episcopal School in Lafayette. Two of her classmates were injured in the shooting; they were innocent bystanders as an argument between two groups escalated into gunfire. Baton Rouge Police Chief T.J. Morse says five people have been arrested.

A measure to crack down on marijuana use near school facilities advances to the Senate. Gabe Firment’s bill would increase the penalty for smoking marijuana within two-thousand feet of a school facility to up to a year in prison and up to a one-thousand dollar fine. Denise Marcelle took issue with the fact that this bill comes amid an increasing push to decriminalize marijuana.

The Saints selected Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the eighth overall pick in the NFL Draft. While an explosive receiver, Tyson does have a history of injuries. Tyson says he will work extra hard to stay healthy as he takes the leap to the next level.
