The LSU men’s basketball team lost its fourth straight game last night in heartbreaking fashion. After leading Kentucky by as many as 18, The Tigers only led the Wildcats 74-73 with 1.9 seconds left to play. Kentucky’s Collin Chandler heaved a full-court pass over the fingertips of LSU’s Robert Miller and into the hands of Malachi Moreno, who sunk an uncontested midrange jumper to win at the buzzer. Head coach Matt McMahon says he was devastated for his team.

Cut 12 (14)“…finish the deal.”

With the loss, McMahon dropped to 14-44 in SEC play in his four years with the Tigers.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball came out on the other side of heartbreak on Wednesday. The Bulldogs completed a 20-point comeback win against Middle Tennessee after junior guard DJ Dudley hit a contested three point shot with 4.7 seconds remaining to give Tech the 59-58 lead. Head coach Telvin Hester says he trusted Dudley to execute on the Bulldogs last shot.

A massive federal basketball point shaving indictment has Louisiana ties. Six of the 17 current or former players indicted in the scheme to rig basketball games for profit played for a Louisiana collegiate program at one point. The indictment was unsealed this morning in Philadelphia and announced by David Metcalf, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Cut 3 (14) “…for monetary gain.”

Metcalf says it started when former LSU star Antonio Blakeney, who was not named in the indictment but was indicted elsewhere, and others colluded to fix professional games in China; and when those proved to be profitable, they moved the operation stateside and into the world of U.S. college basketball. Four Louisiana schools are among the 17 named.

LSU is currently hosting Ohio State transfer safety Faheem Delane on a visit to Baton Rouge. Faheem is the brother of departing senior LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane.
