A baby died as a result of a house fire over the weekend in Breaux Bridge. The fire department responded to the fire just after 2:00 a.m. Sunday. Two of the child’s siblings suffered from smoke inhalation and the baby’s mother sustained burn injuries. The State Fire Marshalls office has not determined weather there was a working smoke detector in the home but during this tragedy, they are reminding Louisiana residents of the importance of making sure homes have working smoke alarms.

In two days, Louisiana will again ride in the Tournament of Roses Parade. The float is titled “Gulf to Gumbo,” and features a giant pelican chef stirring a big pot of gumbo. One of the riders, Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain, says this year’s float is intended to promote Louisiana’s rich agriculture and seafood industries.

For the second straight year, Louisiana Tech is playing in the Independence Bowl today. As the Bulldogs take on Coastal Carolina in Shreveport, Senior defensive back Cedrick Woods wraps up his six-year college career with the Bulldogs. It’s his 58th game with the Bulldogs, which is the most played by a single player in program history. Woods says he is blessed to have been able to play for so many years.
