A Canadian man is under arrest after he allegedly tried to solicit a young girl in Louisiana. Grant Parish Sheriff Steven McCain says 35-year-old Eddy Butler thought he was engaging in a lewd conversation with a child, but he was talking to a Grant Parish detective. Butler sent photos of himself and the setting for those pictures was chilling.

McCain says Butler will not be extradited to Louisiana because Canadian authorities have a strong enough case to put him behind bars for a very long time.

Rates of sexual and physical violence in Louisiana have declined since 2023 according to new statewide survey by Tulane University’s Newcomb Institute. But lead researcher Anita Raj says while physical violence has decreased slightly among men, women continue to face higher risks for partner violence with more than one in four report a partner had burned, chocked, or used a weapon against them.

She says adults who lacked money for food or basic needs in the past year were two to six times more likely to experience violence.

The Bayou Classic is this weekend and State police will join New Orleans Police and the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office in implementing the French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone much like they did for the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras. Trooper Jacob Pucheu (PEE-shoo) says in addition to vehicles being prohibited in the zone, coolers and ice chests won’t be allowed. Those staying in hotels inside the zone will have special procedures to get their luggage to their rooms.
