A recent poll on the governor’s race by JMC Analytics shows Democrat John Bel Edwards is leading Republican David Vitter by 9 points. The poll of 500 likely voters indicates 55-percent feel the prostitution allegations from Vitter’s past will impact their vote. Pollster John Couvillon says it appears Vitter’s campaign is rubbing voters the wrong way…:

The terms of Louisiana’s settlement with BP for $6.8 billion dollars over the 2010 Gulf Oil spill were finalized today. This clears the way for the state to begin receiving billions of dollars for coastal restoration and economic recovery. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says laws need to be changed so that similar situations in settlements of this magnitude don’t take so long…:

After some speculation that he may not do so, Minden Congressman John Fleming announced today that he supports Metairie Congressman Steve Scalise for House Majority Leader. Fleming is part of a conservative group in the House that wants to see all new faces in leadership. LaPolitics-dot-com Publisher Jeremy Alford says Flemings support will be a big plus for Scalise…:

Scalise, the current House Majority Whip, announced last week that he already had the votes to win the election.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for a white extended cab truck in connection with the triple shooting in LaPlace that claimed the life of one man and injured two others. Sheriff Mike Tregre says an 18-year-old victim is in critical condition and the other male victim is in stable condition. They aren’t releasing how many people could be involved, but Tregre says it appears as though the victims had just arrived in a vehicle of their own…:
