It was an absolutely dominating performance by the Saints yesterday as New Orleans crushed the Carolina Panthers 47 to 10. The 47 points are the most points the Saints have ever scored in a season opener. A 59-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Rashid Shaheed on the first drive of the game set the tone. Carr threw three touchdown passes. Alvin Kamara also had a rushing touchdown. The defense had four sacks and three turnovers. The Saints will visit the Cowboys in Dallas next Sunday. Former Haughton High star Dak Prescott threw for 179 yards and a touchdown after agreeing to a four-year 240-million dollar contract prior to kickoff. Dallas defeated Cleveland 33 to 17.
It was a lot closer than expected; but nonetheless, LSU earned its first victory of 2024 by beating Nicholls, 44-21 on Saturday. Nicholls actually pulled to within two early in the third quarter on a 67-yard touchdown run by Colin Guggenheim, but the Colonels would get no closer. The Tigers scored 21 unanswered points to put the game away. After the game, LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly said the short week exposed some flaws in the team’s game.
LSU will now get ready for the SEC opener this Saturday at South Carolina. They also have to prepare for playing without their best defensive tackle, Jacobian Guillory is done for the season with a torn achilles tendon.
The Ragin Cajuns and Warhawks enjoyed blowout victories to improve to 2-and-0, while Tulane, Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State and McNeese all lost.
