Saints Quarterback Drew Brees, who was limited once again during yesterday’s practice, continues to says he is confident he’ll be able to take the field on Sunday at Carolina despite a bruised rotator cuff. If Brees is not cleared to play, veteran backup and former Louisiana Tech star Luke McCown will lead the Black & Gold. The Saints and the Panthers kickoff at noon Sunday and the game will be televised on Fox.

LSU’s only Heisman trophy winner Billy Cannon is super excited about Leonard Fournette’s chance to win college football’s most prestigious award. Fournette is considered a front-runner to win the Heisman after running for 387 yards and 6 touchdowns in the first 2 games of the season. Fournette has also rushed for 100 yards in four consecutive games, dating to last season, scoring nine touchdowns in those contests. Cannon says he hopes he can watch Fournette receive the Heisman…

In high school football action last night: Teurlings Catholic upended Breaux Bridge 14-7, Byrd crushed Captain Shreve 42-13, New Iberia sailed past Lafayette 35-14, Vermilion Catholic beat Highland Baptist 44-13, it was Loreauville over Delcambre 38-14, and Southern Lab destroyed Ascension Catholic 46-7.
