Former President Barack Obama and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi join several Democratic lawmakers who have publicly or privately said Joe Biden should drop out of the presidential race due to concerns about his mental capabilities. ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross…
Cross says Democrats could consider pressuring Biden to drop out soon to distract from the popularity boost former President Donald Trump will get after the Republican National Convention wraps up.
Cut 5 (10) “…Republican National Convention.”
A recent AP-NORC poll found that almost two-thirds of Democrats think Biden should drop out of the race. Several prominent Democratic lawmakers have also called on Biden to exit. Cross says it will be hard for Biden to recover in time for the Democratic National Convention in August.
Though Biden has said publicly he has no intention of dropping out of the race, reports from Biden campaign staffers indicate he’s considering entertaining the idea.

Three children killed in accidental shootings in Louisiana this week should serve as a reminder to be extra vigilant about gun safety. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker says we have a gun culture in the U.S. and especially here in Louisiana.
Sticker reminds gun owners to secure their firearms in a location that is not easily accessible and toconsider storing firearms in a lock box or gun safe. He also advises using trigger locks on all weapons.
Cut 8 (08) “…(x2) they will find it.”
In addition to those tips, Sticker says to store guns unloaded and ammunition in a separate location.
In Lafayette Thursday, a four-year-old child was accidentally fatally shot by his 10-year-old brother. In Hammond, a three-year-old boy died after getting his hands on a gun and shooting himself in the face Wednesday. In St. Tammany Parish, Tuesday a 15-year-old girl was killed by a relative who was handling a firearm in another room.

Jimmy Genovese (Gen-o-vez) was unanimously chosen by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors to serve as Northwestern State University’s next president. Genovese says before he was approached about the job six weeks ago, he never saw himself as president.
Cut 13 (11) “… paid back for me.”
Genovese currently serves as an Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court, though he’ll hit the position’s age limit when his term is up in two years. He says he took the job not only to make Northwestern better, but to keep busy after retiring from the Court.
Cut 14 (09) “…what am I gonna do?”
Genovese, who is a distinguished member of Northwestern’s “Long Purple Line” Alumni Hall of Distinction, says his first priority is reversing Northwestern’s declining enrollment rate. He also says any rumors that Governor Jeff Landry pressured him to vacate his Supreme Court position are false.
Genovese will assume the position next month.

Pickett could change his mind before the December signing period, but for now, Pickett joins a 2025 recruiting class that’s looking like the best in school history according to Dixon.
Cut 18 (13) “…in the country.”
The Tigers have 17 verbal pledges. While Alabama and Ohio State, who are ranked one and two respectively, each have 23 commitments.
