A new state law makes it easier to appeal traffic citations from speeding cameras. Monroe Senator Stewart Cathey said he wrote the law after complaints from his constituents, including a call from local sheriffs in north Louisiana…
Cut 3 (12) “…the things gone.”
The law allows drivers to appeal tickets from traffic cameras by proving there were outside issues involved, like if someone else was driving their car or if there were hazardous conditions. Additionally, Cathey says now if you get a ticket from a traffic camera….
Cut 4 (12) “…if you don’t pay.”
Those in favor of automated enforcement say traffic cameras keep the roads safer, but Cathey points out that police are still able to pull drivers over for speeding. Additionally, Cathey says, automated enforcement can’t stop human and drug trafficking.
Cathey says anyone who needs help appealing a ticket can reach out to him on Facebook.

Ohio Senator J.D. Vance is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention tonight after being picked as former President Donald Trump’s running mate in the 2024 presidential race. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson says Vance was a great V-P pick and has a lot of things going for him.
Vance is the first millennial to be on a major party ticket, which Johnson thinks will help the Trump campaign appeal to younger voters. Plus, Johnson says Vance should boost the campaign’s appeal in middle America because…
Cut 7 (10) “…this election cycle.”
Once a critic of Trump, Vance has since become a champion of the former president’s policies. Additionally, Vance’s rise from a poor family in Ohio to a veteran, lawyer, and Senator puts him in touch with working-class Americans, which Johnson sees as a help to the Trump campaign.
Vice President Kamala Harris says Vance will only be loyal to Trump and not the country by serving as a rubber stamp for Trump’s extreme agenda.

Two candidates who qualified for the newly drawn 6th congressional district today are no strangers to politics. Democrat Baton Rouge Senator Cleo Fields, who served two terms in Congress in the 90s, and Republican Elbert Guillory who represented Opelousas in the state legislature.
The 61-year-old Fields says even though the current congressional map with a second majority-minority district is being challenged it won’t distract him from doing his job.
80-year-old Guillory says the 6th District congressional lines were severely gerrymandered and he believes the district will be modified but in the meantime, it deserves to be properly represented.
Fields says there are parts of the district that haven’t used infrastructure funds to expand things like broadband. He says local governments don’t know how to access those dollars and he can help.
Guillory says in two years a lot of damage could be done in Congress. He referenced a bill that would allow illegal immigrants to vote in federal elections.
Congressman Garret Graves who currently represents the 6th district opted not to run for re-election because the district was redrawn at a disadvantage to him another term.
