A new state law makes it easier to appeal traffic citations from speeding cameras. Monroe Senator Stewart Cathey said he wrote the law because of complaints that speeding camera companies were giving drivers tickets without input from local police.

The law allows drivers to appeal tickets from traffic cameras by proving there were outside issues involved, like if someone else was driving their car or if there were hazardous conditions.

A nine-year-old boy is recovering after he was attacked by an alligator in Lake Pontchartrain. The New Orleans Fire Department says the scary incident happened Sunday while the child was swimming with his family. The boy sustained laceration and puncture wounds. Fire officials credit the child’s father for acting quickly to fend off the six-foot alligator.
