There are new charges for the mother of the 1-year-old nicknamed Miracle Baby who survived two days in a ditch along I-10 and the 4-year-old found dead in water behind the Vinton Welcome Center. Aaliyah Jack, 25, of Lake Charles arrested in Mississippi earlier this week faces a count of second-degree murder, a count of cruelty to a juvenile, and two charges of failure to report a missing child. Her 4-year-old son, Legend, was found dead Monday, then Tuesday morning a truck driver spotted her 1-year-old son, Kingtrail, climbing out of a ditch. Jack is being held in Mississippi on a $9.1 million bond. She is fighting extradition to Louisiana.
State Treasurer John Fleming has been overseeing the state coffers for six months now and says in that short time his small office, with a staff of 71 people, has produced some impressive results. For example, in January he says the Unclaimed Property Division had a backlog of 2,500 claims.

Metairie youth pastor Larkin Jackson launches Free Louisiana, an organization dedicated to the goal of the Bayou State becoming an independent country. He says Louisiana is constantly ranked at the bottom compared to other states and the federal government is to blame.
He says Louisiana should be independent of states like California and New York.
