Ascension Parish deputies are investigating the murder of a Gonzales woman and have arrested her husband 50-year-old Sean Morris. His is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 44-year-old Brenda Morris that occurred Wednesday night. Col Donald Cappello says Ascension Parish is fairly blessed with a low crime rate but sadly this is the second domestic homicide they’ve investigated in the last few weeks.
Governor Jeff Landry’s line-item vetos total four point five million dollars from non-profits. The biggest cuts are one million dollars from Catholic Charities of Acadiana that provides emergency homeless shelter operations for eight parishes, $500,000 from Teach for America that serves high needs schools and $1,000,000 from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
Dr. Ralph Abraham has been appointed the state’s first Surgeon General and says he wants to change policies that have been holding the state back from providing better healthcare. Currently, there are 1.7 million Louisianans enrolled in Medicaid and Abraham says the goal at LDH is to give citizens help so they can continue to work and have healthcare…
