A tragic ending to the Amber Alert search for two young girls from Loranger, who were discovered missing when their mother 35-year-old Callie Brunett was found deceased this morning. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Jimmy Travis describes what happened when law enforcement located Daniel Callahan in Jackson, Mississippi this afternoon.

The Community Lighthouse Project is set to open more facilities across Louisiana just in time for hurricane season. Representative Troy Carter of New Orleans says community members could refrigerate medicine, shelter from a storm, and avoid heatstroke in the lighthouses. Though only six lighthouses are in operation now, Carter says more will be up in no time at all.

BESE approves a new performance plan for schools and students, it’s called the “Grow.Achieve.Thrive” plan. Because only 34-percent of students are proficient in math and only 44-percent are proficient in English, BESE President Ronnie Morris says these are the core fundamentals that schools can focus on to improve graduates’ readiness.
