LSU signee Konnor Griffin from Jackson, Mississippi, has been named the National Gatorade baseball Player of the Year. The center fielder and shortstop hit .559 with nine home runs, 39 RBIS and 87 stolen bases. He also pitched and was 10-0 with a 0.72 ERA and 107 strikeouts. Griffin might not make it to LSU as he’s expected to be a top pick in next month’s Major League Baseball Draft.
The College Football Bowl schedule has been released and for the second year in a row the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl will be played on a Saturday night. Kick-off for the 48th edition of the Indy Bowl will be at 8:15 PM on Saturday December 28th.
The New Orleans Bowl is traditionally played on a Saturday, but this year it will be played on Thursday night December 19th at 6 PM. The game was moved to Thursday, because on Saturday December 21st, there will be three college football playoff games.
It’s a free fishing weekend in Louisiana, which means a license is not needed to cast a line in the water. State Wildlife Fisheries Outreach Biologist Josh Porter says the hope is that someone who is not an angler will go fishing this weekend and get hooked on the sport. Porter says to make it easier to catch something, they’ve stocked adult-sized catfish at 17 ponds across the state…

Former LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese had a big game last night playing close to her home in Baltimore as she scored 16 points, grabbed eleven rebounds and five steals as the Chicago Sky defeated the winless Washington Mystics 79 to 71. LSU coach Kim Mulkey had a front row seat at the Capital One Arena in D-C and two shared a warm embrace.
