Qualifying for Louisiana’s October 24th election officially ended at 4:30 Thursday afternoon. The Secretary of State’s Office says statewide nearly 2,100 candidates qualified for the 1,150 state and local offices up for grabs in the election. A total of 494 candidates across the state were elected automatically when no one signed up to run against them.
Former 5th District Congressman Vance McAllister has jumped back in the political ring, qualifying to run for the state Senate District 33 seat currently held by second term incumbent Mike Walsworth. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley says McAllister’s name recognition and available money for the race give him a real chance.
