The president of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, Chas Roemer, announces he will not seek re-election this fall. He’s been ally to state Superintendent of Education John White and the two were in a very public feud with Governor Bobby Jindal over Common Core. Roemer says his decision to step away from BESE had nothing to do with that very public debate…

A slow moving cold front will give Louisiana its first taste of fall during the weekend. National Weather Service Forecaster Freddie Zeigler says north Louisiana will start to feel cooler temperatures and lower humidity as early as Saturday…

In response to a long summer of gun violence across the country, a “Whatever It Takes” Day of Action will be held today at the Lafayette Public Library. Victoria Coy, with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, says over 50 other events are being held across the nation today to prove there are basic common sense changes that could be made to gun laws…

Coy says friends of Jillian Johnson, a woman killed in the Lafayette Theater shooting in July, will speak at the event.

Today marks the statistical peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, the date where a hurricane is most likely to be in the Atlantic. Eric Blake, Hurricane Specialist with the National Hurricane Center, says long range forecasts are unpredictable, but weather conditions in the Atlantic Basin are not favorable for the formation of hurricanes…
