The state is mourning the death of a Louisiana State Trooper who was shot in the head by a suspected impaired driver near Lake Charles. Forty-three-year-old Steven Vincent died Monday morning by a gunman who has been identified as 54-year-old Kevin Daigle of Lake Charles. Edmonson says Vincent was assisting Daigle who had driven off the road and that’s when Daigle fired at the trooper with a sawed-off shotgun. Daigle will be charged with first-degree murder of a police officer.

The National Hurricane Center says it has issued its final advisory regarding Danny. They say the system has now become a trough of low pressure about 45 miles west-southwest of Guadeloupe. Forecasters will watch to see if the system moves into a more favorable area for development, but most models do not anticipate any reformation.

Within minutes of opening this morning, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by more than 1,000 points, the largest single day point decline in the index’s history. Many believe the sell-off was triggered by China recently devaluing its currency. LSU Economist Jim Richardson says investors should not panic about this record plunge…:

The Dow has partially recovered from this morning’s historic drop.

More campaign signs are starting to pop up around the state, but for the most part with the Louisiana governor’s primary two months from today – voters haven’t seen much from the candidates.
