Baton Rouge Police have arrested 37-year-old Denise Law in the beating death of 66-year-old Melinda Reed. Authorities believe a metal walker was used as the murder weapon. While the investigation remains open, Sargent Darren Ahmed says it remains to be determined if mental illness played a role.

In New Orleans a son is facing first degree murder charges after Jefferson Parish Investigators say he shot a man who was running away from his father’s SUV. Authorities say John Thomas the second was dropping off his father when they noticed someone rummaging through his vehicle. Surveillance video shows Batiste ran when confronted, seconds later the video shows a muzzle flash from inside the younger Thomas’ car. Batiste died at the scene.

Days will continue to get shorter with sunset scheduled for 4:40 p.m. when daylight saving time ends on tomorrow morning at two. LSU Health New Orleans Public Health Expert Dr. Benhamin Springgate says not everyone is affected by the time change in the same way.

Early voting for the November 18th election is underway and continues through next Saturday.  Voter turnout for the October primary election was 36-percent and election officials expect it to be less than half that for this election. JMC Analytics Pollster John Couvillon says the number of mail in ballots supports that.
