Louisiana State Police say a Lottie man died after being involved in a head on collision with Acadian Ambulance. 61-year-old Brett Bergeron was driving south on LA 411 in Livonia when, for unknown reasons, his truck crossed the center line into north bound traffic and struck the ambulance head-on. The ambulance driver sustained minor injuries. Bergeron was wearing a seatbelt during the accident but suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office says a Grenta truck driver is charged with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Commander Eric Becnel says 29-year-old Peter James Wilson III met up with the girl and forced her to perform sexual acts in the sleeper compartment of his truck. He says Wilson claims he’s never seen the victim in person.

Bechnel says Wilson is charged with forcible rape.

 

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso says the crime scene authorities have been searching for human remains under the I-10 Bridge this week. He says no body has been found but they have evidence 35-year-old Gammion McCloud, of Arizona, killed someone and threw them over the bridge.

McCloud was arrested in Oregon on unrelated charges and will soon be extradited back to Calcasieu and charged with aggravated rape, aggravated incest and second degree battery.

State lawmakers have learned this fiscal year’s budget shortfall is projected at 713 million dollars. Director of the Louisiana Budget Project Jan Moller says this is a sign that the new governor will be faced will big fiscal problems next year.

Lawmakers also raised concerns at the joint legislative budget meeting that the current budget might need to be cut due to low oil prices.
