The Department of Agriculture and Forestry says the former volunteer firefighter from Longville is getting five years at hard labor for setting wildfires on purpose in woods near the fire station where he worked. According to a release Brandon Lee Harris told investigators he committed the three arson blazes near the start of the year because of the excitement of fighting fires.

The National Hurricane Center has issued an update on the tropical disturbance forming in the Atlantic. They say Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for development during the next day or so and a tropical depression could form while the system moves west north-westward. Meteorologist Danielle Manning says it’s still too early to tell where the system will end up…:

NOAA says an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon if necessary.

Calcasieu Parish Authorities say a 60-year-old woman died in an apartment complex fire in Iowa Wednesday morning. They say no one else was injured in the blaze. Cause of the fire is under investigation but it’s thought to be electrical in nature.
