Members of the University of Louisiana System Board have slowed the process of hiring Jim Henderson as Louisiana Tech’s next president to allow public input. Henderson would replace current Tech President Les Guice, who announced his retirement last month. Henderson will give up his role as system leader if he’s named Louisiana Tech’s next president at a special meeting in less than three weeks.

There may soon be a black bear season in the Bayou State. A hearing will be held at The Louisiana Wildlife Commission’s meeting next month on the issue. After being on the endangered species list, Commission member Joe McPherson says it will be a limited hunt so not many animals will be taken initially.

Louisiana’s black bear was removed from the endangered species list in 2015. McPherson says if the commission chooses to bring black bear hunting season back it wouldn’t be until the 2024-2025 season.

DeSoto Parish Clerk of Court Jeremy Evans has been arrested less than a week before the October 14th election on two counts of electioneering for violating a law specific to campaigning in nursing homes. Evans posted photographs to his social media page last month during visits to two nursing homes in Mansfield wearing a shirt with a “re-elect Jeremy Evans” logo. This is not the first time Evans has been accused of a violation in connection to an election.
