The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning until 7PM tonight for a majority of Louisiana. Afternoon high temperatures are expected to hit in the triple digits statewide today, with heat index values in the warning area approaching 120 degrees. The remainder of the state is under a Heat Advisory. It is suggested that you drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks if you have to be outside for any extended period of time.

New legislation allows for more information being distributed to the public about Louisiana’s safe haven law. Department of Children and Family Services Secretary Suzy Sonnier says they have seen more abandonments than people using safe havens and the goal is to keep babies safe and find them loving homes…

The safe haven law allows parents to legally give up a baby until they’re two months old.

Researchers have found what could be a link between poor sleep and the increased risk for Alzheimer’s Disease. Director of Imaging at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Owen Carmichael, says this research shows that not getting adequate, undisturbed sleep can mean a protein linked to Alzheimer’s isn’t cleaned out properly…
