A fatal disease known as lethal bronzing is killing off thousands of palm trees across south Louisiana. LSU Ag Center Plant Doctor, Raj Singh says the disease is wiping out 16 different types of palms across the state.

The palm tree killer has been detected in Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, and Iberia Parishes.

The state Office of Juvenile Justice says it has moved the youth juvenile offenders that were housed at a temporary facility at Angola to a new juvenile justice facility in Jackson Parish.

The eventual plan is to house high-risk juveniles at a new state-run facility near Monroe, but it’s still under construction.
Wildlife officials are encouraged by successful hatchings of the endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle on the Chandeleur Islands. Coastal Resources scientist manager with LDWF, Matt Weigel, says the sea turtles were first spotted on the island last year and now there are over 100 sea turtle crawls on the island…
Weigel says it’s one of the highest-density nesting beaches in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
