The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is urging citizens to use caution during the next several days because of dangerous heat levels. The National Weather Service indicates record high temperatures are possible in some regions and much of Louisiana will be above 100 degrees. Heat Indicies could exceed 110 degrees. A heat advisory is currently in effect for the upper half of the state until 7pm on Sunday.

The State Department of Education launches a new web portal which outlines Louisiana’s career education options. The program Jump Start now has an online site called “All things Jump Start.” State Superintendent of Education John White says Jump Start allows high school graduates to enter the workforce with an industry credential:

He says all Jump Start resources are now at the touch of a button on the department’s website: louisianabelieves.com.

Louisiana’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday happens today and tomorrow. During the holiday, the 4% state sales tax on the first 25 hundred dollars of each item a customer buys will be waived. Department of Revenue spokesperson Kizzy Payton reminds shoppers to hold on to back to school shopping receipts..:
