House Speaker Clay Schexnayder told Talk 107-3 FM in Baton Rouge that there will be a veto override session next week. State legislators had until midnight last night to submit a ballot to cancel the override veto session. The governor’s veto of a bill to ban gender affirming care is motivating the Republican led Legislature to hold an override session.
Yet another poll in the governor’s race shows Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry with a comfortable lead over all challengers.

Today is the 125th birthday of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It was July 14, 1898, when at that time Governor Murphy James Foster signed an act to establish Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute. University president Dr. Joseph Savoie says it was two years later before Lafayette was chosen as the site.
