Lawmakers must have their ballots in by midnight tonight if they’re against holding a veto override session. In Louisiana, when the governor rejects legislation a veto session is automatic, unless lawmakers vote NOT to have one. La-Politics-dot-com publisher Jeremy Alford says it’s extremely likely lawmakers will return for an override session.

Cut 3 (11) “….returning here.”

Alford says another clue there will be an override session next week, is that at least three political fundraisers are scheduled over the five days set aside for the session.

Cut 4 (06)  “…announced.”

The veto of a bill to ban gender-affirming healthcare for minors, Alford says it’s that bill that’s the driving force among Republicans for an override session.  But will there be enough votes if lawmakers do return to override that bill or any of the bills the governor vetoed?

Cut 5 (07)  “…than done.”

Alford says the state Republican party has even threatened lawmakers with repercussions if they do not override Governor Edwards’ veto.

Louisiana sportsmen will soon have a new gadget to help them bring home the catch of the day. LDWF Artificial Reef Program has deployed its first-ever Fish Attracting Device (FAD) buoys in the Gulf of Mexico.  Artificial Reef Coordinator Mike McDonough says fishing enthusiasts presented the idea but it took a lot of time and research…

Cut 6 (11)  “…the water..”

The device is located 30 miles southeast of Venice. The device is visible above the water in the Gulf of Mexico which makes it easier for anglers to locate. McDonough says the device gives fishers an idea where they can cast their rods for larger fish…

Cut 7 (07)  “… billfish…”

To keep them in place, the devices are anchored using concrete blocks that connect to the buoys with chains and rope. McDonough hopes the new devices are beneficial for commercial fishers and anticipate deploying more in the future…

Cut 8 (08)  “…more someday…”

State Police are seeking the person who struck & killed a pedestrian then drove away early Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 90 near Donner, in Terrebonne Parish. Troop C spokesman Ross Brennan says they had a couple calls about a man walking on the four-lane divided highway. Brennan says the speed limit in the area is 70, and it is not safe for walkers…:

Cut 9 (09)  “…in the left lane.”

The unknown male victim suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a New Orleans hospital, where he later died. Trooper Brennan says it is a double mystery; who was the victim and who is the person who fled the scene…?

Cut 10 (09)  “…even the color.”

They ask anyone with any knowledge of the hit & run to contact then (985-857-3680, press 0).

Brennan says Troopers investigate far too many roadside deaths and injuries of pedestrians. He says avoid walking along busy roads, and if you must…always walk ON THE LEFT SHOULDER, facing oncoming traffic…:

Cut 11 (11)  “…see you more easily.”
