The Saints defense struggled last season, but Detillier likes the additions that have been made to the defensive secondary.

The Saints will begin training camp without Safety Jairus Byrd, wide receiver Marques Colston, and defensive lineman Glenn Foster. Each of the three have been declared physically unable to perform. The three remain on the active roster and can be activated as soon as they are healthy.

At the Southland Conference Media Day in Lake Charles, the Southeastern Louisiana football team is picked to finish second in the conference this season behind Sam Houston State. The Lions shared conference championship honors with the Bearkats last season. McNeese State is predicted to finish third in the league. Northwestern State is picked in the fifth spot, with Nicholls State coming in at the number 10 position.

LSU men’s basketball coach Johnny Jones announces he’s hired Brendan Suhr as an assistant coach. Suhr won a pair of NBA titles as an assistant for Chuck Daly, who guided the Detroit Pistons to world championships in 1989 and 1990.
