After being ranked number one for most of the season, the real season begins today for the LSU Tigers as they open the Baton Rouge Regional by hosting Tulane at 2 PM. The Tigers went 1-and-2 last week in the SEC Tournament but center fielder Dylan Crews says the postseason truly begins today….
Cut 17 (16) “…was good”
Crews is the SEC Player of the Year and right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes has been named the National Player of the Year by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. No announcement yet from LSU Coach Jay Johnson on a starting pitcher today.

The SEC announces it will play an eight-game conference schedule in 2024, the first year Texas and Oklahoma join the league. Several schools, including LSU, wanted to move to a nine-game schedule, but there was enough pushback that the league has settled on eight conference games in 2024. LSU’s conference schedule for 2024 will be announced June 14th.

This afternoon the Ragin Cajuns will battle Texas in the opening game of Coral Gables regional. U-L Lafayette Coach Matt Deggs says it’s an even match-up on paper….
Cut 19 (28) “…great matchup.”
Nine-game winner Jackson Nezuh will get the start for the Cajuns. First pitch is at 1 PM.

Tonight, Nicholls makes its first appearance in a Regional since 1998 when they play Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The Colonels are 34 and 22 and they’ve never won an NCAA Tournament game in program history as they are 0-6 in three previous regional appearances. Nicholls was a surprise winner of the Southland Conference. Before the season they were picked to finish sixth in the conference.
