Willis Reed, a Louisiana and NBA legend, who won two championships with the New York Knicks, has passed away at the age of 80. Reed was born in Lincoln Parish, played college basketball at Grambling State in the early 1960s. During his senior season, he averaged 27 points and 21 rebounds a game. He led the Tigers to one NAIA title and three SWAC championships. Reed went on to have a hall of fame career in the NBA, even though he was undersized as a center. Reed won NBA titles with the Knicks in 1970 and 1973 and was nicked named the captain.

Expect the NBA to have a moment of silence for Reed before all of their games tonight. Tonight the Pelicans host the San Antonio Spurs. There are eleven games left in the season and New Orleans is 34 and 37 and a half game back of tenth place in the Western Conference, the final spot for the play-in tournament.

The top seed in LSU’s bracket lost in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament last night as Miami upset Indiana. The Lady Tigers face Utah Friday afternoon in Greenville, South Carolina.

After taking two of three from Texas A-and-M last weekend, LSU hosts Central Arkansas tonight. Coach Jay Johnson says the Bears will be a good test….

Louisiana Tech and ULM meet for the 127th time tonight as the two teams will meet in Monroe. The Bulldogs have won 15 of the last 16 meetings and La Tech also leads the all-time series 75-51. Also tonight, McNeese takes a seven-game winning streak into Houston. And the Cajuns host Grambling.

The Saints have announced the signing of defensive back Lonnie Johnson. And New Orleans has also signed offensive tackle Storm Norton. Both players were reserves last year.
