Thursday was a big day for northeast Louisiana high school football as both Ouachita Christian and Oak Grove won state titles. It still remains to be seen who’s in or out for the 2023 gubernatorial race as several candidates wait to see if Senator John Kennedy makes it official. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says he’ll conduct a poll this weekend to see if he’ll run or not. But political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says until Kennedy decides a poll is obsolete.

Pinsonat says there are several factors Nungesser needs to take into consideration, for example, campaign funds, can he outraise Kennedy? And with Jeff Landry in the race can Nungesser capture enough Republican support?

While polling is important, Pinsonat says in this case with the Kennedy factor unknown he believes Nungesser needs to take other factors into consideration.

DOTD Secretary and Democrat Shawn Wilson says he’s putting together an exploratory committee to consider the governor’s race.

Starting January 1st over 5 million Veterans will receive additional VA benefits and health services as a result of the PACT Act. Lucas says The PACT Act will help more than 5 million Veterans who were exposed to toxins during Vietnam, the Gulf War and post 9/11 eras.

Lucas says that Veterans will reap the benefits from visiting the website.

The U-S House has approved 858-billion dollars for national defense and hundreds of millions of dollars will go towards Louisiana’s military bases. Congressman and House Armed Services Committee member Mike Johnson says Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier Parish will receive 125-million dollars to construct a Weapons Generation facility…

Johnson says Fort Polk in Vernon Parish will receive 61-million dollars to update the command station so it provides more realistic training activities.

Cut 13 (10) “…for decades”  

Fort Polk is also receiving 41-million for a new Child Development Center and 35-million dollars to update the Information System Facility at Fort Polk.

Johnson is also glad the federal legislation rescinds the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for members of the U.S. military…
