3rd Judicial District D.A. John Belton says he’ll convene a grand jury next month to look at evidence against Louisiana State Troopers in the roadside death of Ronald Greene back in 2019. Greene – a black man – was beaten by officers after a three-parish car chase. He died while in custody. The grand jury will convene November 10th.
Starting this year, third and fourth graders who perform below grade level on an end of the year literacy assessment will be provided 30 additional hours of focused literacy instruction during the summer…:

Three boaters were rescued Monday after fending off sharks about 25 miles out in the Gulf, after their boat sank. Louisiana Oyster Task Force Chairman and professional angler Mitch Jurisich says the Coast Guard arrived just in time because one man was holding onto an ice chest, and he was smart enough to know to go for the shark’s eyes…:

He says sharks have grown extremely aggressive and are known to steal fishermen’s catch…often.
A Livingston Parish deputy, who was driving 85 miles an hour before a fatal rear-end crash in July will not face criminal charges. The crash killed 33-year-old Christine Estave. A grand jury declined indicting Cory Winburn with vehicular homicide. He’ll instead get a ticket for careless operation and faces possible fines and community service. Winburn was hired by LPSO in 2009, fired in 2018 and then rehired in 2020.
